Pete Waterman Studio Manchester
Pete Waterman’s studio, sited in an old church building with associated halls in Deansgate, the buildings were famous for meetings that took place earlier this century that resulted in the industrial unrest of many of the miners & cotton mill workers. Troops were called in to quell the riots.
Later in the 60’s & 70’s it was used as a Rock n’ Roll venue for the likes of the Searchers, Beatles, Billy J Kramer, the original Drifters, Edwin Star & many more.
The requirement was for 2 control rooms & a shared vocal booth. Noise issues to solve were the main rail link from Liverpool to Manchester at the rear, Deansgate at the front & 4 X 500mm diameter cast iron pillars that supported the upper floor & roof area, where we wanted to site the audio room. Large 15 metre steels had to be lowered into place & mounted on specially designed mounts, to provide us with all the isolation needed externally & internally. These mounts also enabled the vocal booth to be used by one Control Room & a mix carried out in another.
As Petes home was only 15 miles away many of the over 200 hit songs to his credit were recorded there up until 2002, such as Kylie, Rick Astley, Steps etc.
