Twickenham Film Studios

Twickenham Film Studios – Sound Centre Project

This project followed on from the successful design & build of the Foley Stage at Shepperton Studios.

Probably one the most demanding of designs! The land allocated for the new centre bounded by a road that routed 20-30 HGV tankers a day and a main railway line at the rear that ran from the West of England to London. An oil recycling plant also flanked the rear boundary.

To maximise the space & reduce the cost of the host building we had to design a lightweight isolated shell for the internal fit out. To cap it all the roof of the building was subject to one of the main flight paths to Heathrow airport.

Office space & 20 film cutting rooms were sited around the stage areas to act as a sound buffer.

The centre was to host a state of the art 3000sq ft Dubbing Theatre & Foley Stage. During one session the power failed. Staff inside the building heard nothing & it was not until they went outside that they discovered a thunderbolt had struck a large oak tree, 4 metres from the gable of the building, including the power line to the theatres.

Productions at the Sound Centre include Shanghai, Hellboy II, Sweeney Todd, Primeval, Miss Conception, the Great Escape & Churchill at War.
